Yeah the reality is that as a musician/producer it takes marketing genius and consistent advertising to get that deadmau5 level of success (getting signed). Arguably, or at least to me, it isn't really worth it. In 2015 some label from Chiraq gave me a call and sent me a contract, the details of which are pretty standard for the industry, and after reading it, I concluded that if I wasn't a MASSIVE breakout success, I'd end up owing them a lot of money and grunt work over time for minimum wage. Decided against that.
I think people using my music for their games and movies is sufficient, having a friend group, working on passion projects that have a bit of community, that's worth it to me. I've always been inspired by indie producers anyway, with the exception of a few mainstream favorites. But performing has never really been on my agenda. The production side is the most fun.
Truly there is no winning as an artist. I used to dream of getting signed to even a small label, but even if that happens, as you say - your options are:
1. Become Taylor Swift
2. Get fucked
That's a great set of goals IMO. Who knows, maybe if I spend enough time around here, I might encounter this sense of 'community' also... I agree regarding performing, touching grass once a week is more than enough outside time for me :)
@KI1 Just noting this so you see I responded on Discord!

Don't be such a drama llama, broseph. Congrats!
And keep on keeping on. These days I think very few us truly know wtf we're doing.
Just try to make life suck a little bit less and ride it out. :u
Music definitely makes things suck a little bit less so thanks for making it & sharing.
