The great return to NG

Posted by KI1 - June 20th, 2024

Damn, I feel like I gotta apologize for my last post. I have no idea why I come off so dramatic and whiny sometimes - kinda cringe.

Anyways, I'm very happy to be back on NG after so long away. Already I've had several interactions with other human beings (including old friends), which feels great. I had forgotten how diverse, enthusiastic, creative, maybe a little cringey and... neurodivergent in the (and I cannot stress this enough) best possible way this website is.

I think a big part of why my music and creative endeavors in general fell flat for so many years is because for so long it was just me sat in front of FL Studio alone. I'd spend a couple of minutes a week (at most) trying to work on something and quickly ending up over-thinking or losing interest. Since I spent so few minutes spread across so many years I was never able to improve in any way either, which just added to my lack of motivation.

So, considering all of that: I'm going to be focusing on quantity over quality (somewhat) for a while and seeing where it gets me. There might be a large amount of hard-to-listen-to noise, but a good chance that I'll learn something from it.

There's this person on YouTube I've been following who's posting their journey through 'learning music production' from the very beginning (incl. no music theory). A lot of their first attempts very strongly remind me of my early ""music"". They've made a great deal of progress in just 50 days so far by consistently making something every day and gathering feedback from comments. So that's the sort of direction I want to go. (Obviously not something everyday, my WFH job isn't THAT forgiving)...

Newgrounds is great for feedback of many different kinds, and also a really great place to check out what other people get up to as well.

Best of luck on your journey! :]

Thank you! I appreciate it

@KI1 You're welcome

@KI1 You're welcome

Laughing for the meme, staying for the post. You have a very succinct way of describing something that usually takes me a book worth of words -- the struggle of starting up as a music producer and the temptation to go on hiatus because what you think and what you make are consistently two different things. I still have this problem years later, despite being pretty decent at what I do.

Still a fan of your music after all these years. It's been awesome catching up too. Your style has matured in a lot of ways, but I still hear that old flavor that drew me in initially!

If there's one thing I'm not short on - it's memes. Surely this is something we all struggle with at some point, and it's nice to know even someone as technically proficient and musically talented as yourself still has trouble with. Yay for suffering!

Always appreciative of you following along! I don't know of any other person who has kept up with my creative endeavors as long as you. Sometimes it feels like only yesterday I opened the FL Studio 8 trial, now it's suddenly... 15 years later... I need a lie down.
